We live in challenging times. Now, more than ever, where we live and how we live matters. Facing the big problems of our time—the environment, the economy, and our socio-political landscape—calls upon a more integrated and thoughtful way of building no matter how big or small the project might be.
Hansel Bauman, Architect + Planner (HB / a+p) was established in July 2006 to address complex design challenges with an inclusive and considered approach to architecture and planning for higher education, scientific research, and community based projects.
Mr. Bauman has over twenty years of experience in planning and design of facilities for education, scientific research, industry and residential communities in the US, Europe and Asia. The majority of this experience is drawn from his work with large, national design and planning firms. Additionally he has served as the senior site planner at the University of California’s Berkeley Lab and has been an instructor of architectural design courses at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and Gallaudet University.
With its unique blend of experience, HB / a+p understands the complexities of large scale scientific, academic and community based projects and brings a fresh perspective to the early problem solving phases of programming, master planning and concept design. HB / a+p works very closely with clients to achieve their vision efficiently and creatively.
We work collaboratively to make the design process more accessible and interactive for our clients. We find that a more inclusive process leads to the making of great places that are more responsive to and expressive of the vision and specific conditions of each project. HB / a+p provides a full range of planning and architectural services to colleges, universities, research institutions and community organizations.
